About the author

Margot Arendse trained in Cape Town as a fashion designer and worked in London for High Street stores before specialising in period bridalwear in Bristol in 1994. Her non-fiction book Couture Bridalwear: pattern layout and design was published by Batsford in 2000, after teaching at the London College of Fashion as a visiting lecturer and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in History of Textile and Dress and worked for a textile conservation company in Bristol. She has extensive experience working in the costume and textile collections of various museums.

The Visitor: She came and stayed, her first novel, derived from her travel experiences with her academic husband, now retired, whose research took them to tropical islands in both the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The novel is intended as the first part of a trilogy, the second volume of which is currently in preparation.
